There used to be up to six hundred stone dressers on the island. The traces of their brilliant hands are vivid on the smooth perpendicular cliffs of the stone-pit and in the hills material gravelled areas in one of which a small church to 'Lady of Visitation' was built in 1674. Through its harmonious and simple rosette smouldering candle lights would pass the farewell greetings to the Vrnikans while sailing out with stone cargos all over the wide world.
